Baby Bjorn Backpacks

Ok we currently have a baby(bjorn) carrier that we use for our first son, but I’m thinking that I’ll need a or something for the instead of carrying him around in the carrier so soon. What do you think? Should I invest in a sling? What stores can I get one from and for a good price? Any links? Thanks!

I have a baby bjorn and a wrap and my baby seems to like the wrap better. It is a more womb-like environment for her, in my opinion. I found a great, competitively priced wrap that I am still using and she is 3 months old. It does not strain my back like the bjorn does (my baby is now 13 lbs). The best part about it is that you get to customize your wrap.

try craiglsit or a mom group near you that can get you one second hand.
a newborn baby needs the neck support.

In my area there are women who make baby slings by custom order. So you can choose your fabric, size and even have the baby’s name embroidered on it. You could always check your local internet listing to see if there is a talented individual near you that does the same.

I used a normal carrier with my son starting at 2 weeks old. He has been just fine in it. I have one that you can out him in the froggy position rather than having his legs go out the leg holes though, but I’m sure he would ahve been fine in the bjorn. I have a sling and my son hated it. If you end up with a baby who doesn’t like being swaddled, the sling will be a waste. maybe you should wait until he is born to see what his personality is like. target has them for fairly inexpensive. good luck!

I had a baby sling and a baby Bjorn for my son. I only used the sling a few times, when I had to travel with my son when he was very young (3 weeks old). I now use the Baby Bjorn. He likes to hold his head up and see what’s going on. If I had not had to travel with him so young I would have never used the sling. The only good thing about getting the sling, is that I got it from Craigslist, and I only paid $10. It was the Infantino SlingRider. They have it at Target. The link to the sling I had is below. It was very comfortable.

I would definitely hold off on getting the sling until you know your baby’s personality. I have a 1 week old newborn who HATES swaddling with a passion…of course, as an overly-enthusiastic first-time parent, I went hog wild and bought three different types of slings (a hot sling, a moby wrap, and another wrap in addition to a baby bjorn). My daugher wails in all of the slings, but really REALLY likes the bjorn and settles down right away…she keeps her hands inside it since she is small, and I have to make sure her head is supported, but I cannot believe how much money I wasted on the expensive fancy yuppie slings that we will most likely not use (unless baby #2 in the future is a swaddle fan!)
